How We Research
Every guide on NicelySet starts with one question: will this product work for the person who is shopping for it? For our indoor smokeless grill guides, that means your counter, your outlet and how you like to cook.
Here is how we answer it.
1. We start with your kitchen
The space on your counter, the outlet nearby and the ventilation you have decide which grill fits. A small contact grill and a large grill and air fryer combo suit different kitchens.
We check the size and footprint, the cooking area and the cord. If you rent or live in a condo, we tell you to check your lease, HOA and building rules.
2. We compare specs and features
We look at the cooking area, the plates (grill, griddle or both), the power, the temperature settings and any air fry, bake or roast modes. We also look at whether the plates and drip tray come out.
Ninja, Hamilton Beach and the other makers describe their grills in their own words, so we name the brand for every claim. We quote the plate material the maker states.
3. We look at what "smokeless" means
"Smokeless" is the makers' word. An indoor grill can still make some smoke and smell, especially with fatty food or high heat.
So we describe what a grill does and name the brand for its claims. We never promise that a smoke alarm will stay quiet.
4. We look at buyer feedback
We read through what buyers report after using a grill. We look for patterns, like smoke when searing, sticky plates, hard cleanup, uneven heat or parts that wear.
One angry review doesn't sink a product. A pattern does.
5. We score each product
Our score weighs specs, features and buyer feedback against what you're shopping for. A product that's great for one kitchen may score lower in a guide written for another.
Scores spread out on purpose. A 10 is rare.
6. We keep pages up to date
Products change, and some disappear from stores. Ninja sells many grills with similar names, so we check each model name and code, and we only link new units.
When we update a guide, the "Updated on" date at the top changes with it.
What our picks are not
Our picks are research, not lab tests. We don't claim to have cooked on every grill we cover.
Cooking appliances get hot and make grease, so follow the maker's manual for heat, placement and cleaning. We don't promise that any grill is smoke-free, odor-free or fire-proof.
We cover electric indoor grills only. We make no health or food-safety claims, and when a maker makes a claim, we label it as the maker's claim.
